Elephant Trip January 2024

Buriram Airport

We arrived at Buriram Airport, less than an hour from Bangkok's Don Muang Airport. We were met at the airport by Kee (Suriya Sapmak), the owner of Banrai Baibun, an elephant farm. Transportation in the elephant village is fragile, so we strongly recommend asking the elephant ranch or your accommodations for transportation.

Incidentally, I got the contact information of a Grab driver in Buriram city so that you can book a pick-up or drop-off. The price for a charter is 1000THB- per day plus gas.

An Avis car rental at the airport for about 1000THB per day.

Banrai Baibun Elephant Farm

Getting to the Elephant Village from the airport takes about an hour. The village has several private accommodations, many elephant keepers, an elephant museum, and elephant graves.

Banrai Baibun is about 30 minutes further from the elephant village.

Banrai Baibun currently has ten elephants. They also raise dogs, cows, and chickens. Many elephants, such as those transporting timber, were rescued from hard labour in southern and northern Thailand. The elephants at Banrai Baibun are a ranch for elephants that do not do hard labour or perform tricks. Tours have already been conducted at Banrai Baibun by local veterinary students.

Banrai Baibun is a traditional elephant farm in Surin Province, Thailand, where the Kuy ethnic minority has long been famous for its elephants. Banrai Baibun is still struggling to make a profit, so donations worldwide make it possible. We invite you to donate to the elephants.

The elephant village experience is about seeing the elephants, learning about elephant traditions, and visiting the local market. The market is Krapo Market, a night market near Elephant Village. There is a Sunday market at Surindra Rajabhat University in Surin City.

Satuek's Market

This is a permanent market. Satuek is a busy town near the Elephant Village.

Night Market

These markets open in the evening.
